Emerging Standards for Business Continuity and Emergency Planning
Strohl System is proud to welcome William Raisch, Executive Director of The International Center for Enterprise Preparedness as a general session speaker at our 2008 conference. InterCEP is the world’s first major academic center dedicated to private sector resiliency and emergency preparedness. Businesses and other private sector organizations set the initial mission of the Center and remain engaged on an ongoing basis in its evolution. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security provided the core funding for this initiative to create a truly international resource for education and research in this vital area.
In the presentation, Mr. Raisch will review the latest status of the new voluntary certification program for private sector preparedness and the potential role it may play in forwarding incentives for business resilience. Mr. Raisch will discuss the potential impacts of the certification program on the private sector and opportunities that it may present as a competitive advantage. This general session will include review of the current status of standards for use in the certification program, the certification process itself, the latest on national implementation efforts.

Public-Private Partnerships: The Financial Sector as Model
The ability to prevent, prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters – both catastrophic and limited – can be fundamentally improved when the public and private sectors coordinate and cooperate.
This session, presented by Brian Tishuk, Executive Director of ChicagoFIRST, will provide an overview of the financial sector’s public/private partnership in general and the regional partnership that is ChicagoFIRST in particular.
Mr. Tishuk will address the development of public/private partnerships in the homeland security and business continuity spheres and the myriad of ways in which government and private firms can benefit from them. He will draw upon the experience of the financial sector for illustrative purposes and his own experience at the U.S. Treasury Department.
